Introducing.........

Josh Rydell

JAZZ. FUNK. SOUL. BLUES. HIP HOP & MORE

Introducing the dynamic and versatile jazz saxophonist extraordinaire, whose musical prowess knows no bounds. Meet Josh, a true maestro of improvisation and a master of multiple genres.

He was born and raised on the south east London/Kent border and moved to the West Midlands when he was 18 to pursue a degree in Maths at the university of Warwick.

Growing up he studied piano, composition and of course saxophone as a member of the junior Trinity conservatoire, a music college he attended on Saturdays.

While his piano skills were never very good, he fell in with jazz saxophone and classical composition. In 2017 he was a runner up in the junior category of BBC Young Composer of the year.

While studying for his Bachelors and Masters degree, he immersed himself in the local music scene - especially the university big band.

He is now the coordinator of the jazz band at the university. He started working professionally as musician at 19 when he was scouted for The Phoenix Collective in mid 2022.

With his exceptional skills and undeniable talent, he has become the secret weapon for one of the busiest artists in the West Midlands music scene.

- JOSHUA -

“After meeting Levi Washington [The Owner] randomly at a jam one year ago, my musical life has taken off! I’ve met so many amazing people and had the opportunity to play all sorts of gigs, The Phoenix Collective is one the the best things ever to happen to me!”

Some of my favourite gigs have been performing with Levi as the supporting act for Tony Hadley and appearing on BBC CWR to talk about it! Another favourite is appearing at the Godiva Festival [Coventry] on the Next stage. I can’t wait to come and play for you, I take great pride in making any special occasion memorable and you will not be disappointed!
